Saul J. Berman, Ph.D. is Partner &Vice President, Global Service Area Leader for Strategy & Transformation within IBM Global Business Services (GBS). In this role he works closely with major corporations around the globe on strategic business issues. He leads a worldwide team of IBM consultants focused on delivering business value through business, technology and operations strategy engagements as well as organizational change initiatives. Prior to this role, Dr. Berman was the Lead Strategy Partner for the Media and Entertainment Practice as well as a Global Strategy & Change Services Leader at IBM GBS. Before joining IBM, Saul was the Global Strategic Change Leader at PwC Consulting. He was also previously with The Boston Consulting Group, a divisional Vice President with Broadway Department Stores and an Assistant Professor of Management at the University of Southern California. Dr. Berman has more than 25 years of consulting experience advising senior management of large corporate and start-up organizations. He has directed engagements addressing issues of strategy, organization, and operations. He has worked extensively on issues of competitive positioning, differentiation, new business plans & strategies, new business models, growth, operational & cost improvement, operations/ manufacturing strategy, organizational design and enterprise transformation. His clients have included most of the major media companies as well as internet companies, telecommunication companies, consumer goods manufacturers, retailers and automotive companies in the United States, Japan, Europe and Australia. Dr. Berman holds a Ph.D. in Management and Information Systems and a MBA in Production Systems and Operations Research from the Graduate School of Business at Columbia University. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in Economics at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania,. A frequent speaker to industry and strategic planning organizations such as the World Economic Forum, MIPCOM, Consumer Electronics Association, McGraw Hill Media Summit, the National Association of Broadcasters, Online Publishers Association and Digital Hollywood. Dr. Berman was named as one of the Top 25 Consultants of 2005 by Consulting Magazine & Top 50 Marketing executives over 50 by Global CMO Magazine. He is also an editorial advisory board member for Strategy & Leadership Magazine. Additionally, Dr. Berman served as a board member of the USC Film School Entertainment Technology Center, and of the Southern California chapter of the Strategic Leadership Forum. He has also authored numerous books and publications including Not For Free: Revenue Strategies for a New World, published by Harvard Business Review Press, and the recent IBM studies: “Beyond Digital - Connecting media and entertainment to the future,” IBM Institute for Business Value, 2012 and “The Power of Cloud - Driving business model innovation,” IBM Institute for Business Value, 2012.

 

Vishal Sapra, VP, Growth & Innovation, MRY: Sitting at the intersection of Madison Avenue, Wall Street, and Silicon Valley, Vishal helps lead global new business and innovation efforts at MRY, working with big brands to assess their business needs and deploy digital infrastructure, strategy, analytics, and content services. He also helps lead innovation efforts for the agency, working closely with the start-up community to connect them to brands looking to keep up, lead, and innovate in a world where the consumer journey is in a state of disruption. Vishal joined agency life from the investment banking world, where he provided strategic and financial advisory services to Fortune 500 retail and hospitality brands. With unique insights into market trends, operational issues that effect business, and understanding how to navigate organizational change of all sorts, he helps bridge branding and business principles.

 

Brian Marr, Chief Strategy Officer, Smashing Ideas ; Brian Marr is a marketing strategist, business leader and educator. In his role as Chief Strategy Officer at Smashing Ideas, Brian is passionate about creating digital experiences that harness the Power of Motivational Design– what he believes is one of the most powerful tools in creating an engaged, loyal audience. Brian has been fortunate to work for several great technology companies and startups, including Microsoft and Hewlett Packard, in product management and marketing roles focused on bringing new consumer technology to market and evolving communications through emerging media. In 2007 he transitioned to an agency role, joining the Wexley School for Girls as Managing Director. His clients have included Boeing, Getty Images, Mattel, Microsoft, Panasonic, Philips, Pepsico, Wilson and the Seattle Sounders. Brian grew up in Silicon Valley and graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. He currently teaches two graduate courses in the Master of Communication Leadership program at the University of Washington.

 

Paul Schoknecht, Digital Experience Director, Sr. Partner, JWT Atlanta:  As Digital Experience Director, Paul drives Digital Strategy, Social Media and User Experience for clients. His group is charged with activating brands across the digital spectrum. His passion for the space and knowledge for what is coming next helps the brands he works with stay ahead of the curve. Paul leads digital engagements from program inception through creative development, and finally, to reporting. This not only gives him the insight to ensure that all pieces are meeting original goals, but also that the correct analytics are being put into place to measure ROI.  His experience includes work with Unites States Marine Corps, Nokia, Anheuser-Busch, Disney, US Virgin Islands, Sony, Electronic Arts, Nintendo, The WB, MGM, Symantec & Texas Instruments.  Paul has led digital efforts for JWT in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Atlanta.

 

Judy Johnson, Director of UX & Product Innovation, AWE Division, Bottle Rocket:  Judy Johnson is an 15+ year veteran of Product Management and Technology.  Since joining Bottle Rocket, she has lead the AWE, TV Everywhere division to the successful launch of over 20 apps for brands including NBCUniversal, Scripps Networks and A+E Networks. The work she has lead has been featured in an Apple Keynote as well as a recent Google I/O announcement.  Prior to joining Bottle Rocket, Johnson lead product management for several large corporations including Sony, NEC and IBM.  Her areas of expertise include global product roadmap development, mobile and business strategy planning as well as team management.

 

Brian Deulley, Senior Director of Business Development for Fathom Events, is a proven organizational leader with more than 16 years of experience in the media and entertainment industries. Deulley oversees the research and exploration of new event verticals and revenue opportunities for Fathom Events. He focuses on business development, corporate sponsorship and alternative content programming in the cinema industry. With his many years of experience in the industry, Deulley’s solid understanding of Fathom’s distribution platform technologies, marketing, finance and business management have enabled him to help bring multiple dynamic events to the big screen including red carpet events for “The Night Before Our Stars” with Twentieth Century Fox and “Insider Access to Disney•Pixar’s ‘Inside Out’” with Disney Studios. Additionally, he has spearheaded efforts to bring eSports to theaters and fans nationwide including major industry tournaments such as Dota 2 - The International and League of Legends North American LCS. Deulley has also worked with other major partners such as Sony Playstation, Microsoft, Intel, CITRIX, Wells Fargo, Waste Management, Thirty One Gifts and McDonalds. Previously, Deulley served as the Manager of Bookings for United Artists Theatre Circuit and as Senior Manager of Event Operations for National CineMedia. He is experienced in business and sales operations, product development and business development.

Deulley resides in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, with his wife and two daughters.

 

Ted Cohen, Managing Partner, TAG Strategic: industry luminary and former, Vice President, Digital Development & Distribution, EMI Music: As Vice President of Digital Development & Distribution for EMI Music, Ted Cohen oversaw worldwide digital business development for this "big five" record company, which includes labels such as Capitol, Virgin, Angel/Blue Note, Parlophone and Chrysalis. Under Cohen's guidance, EMI has led the industry with its initiatives in new technologies and business models such as digital downloads, online music subscriptions, custom compilations, wireless services, high-definition audio and Internet radio. In addition to seeking out, evaluating and executing business opportunities for the company, Cohen serves as both a strategist and key decision-maker for EMI's global new media and anti-piracy efforts. He has worked to establish company-wide policies, which have allowed EMI's artists and labels a substantial advantage in the digital music arena. Cohen served previously as the Executive Vice President of Digital Music Network Inc., where he co-founded and served as Chairman of the Webnoize '98 & '99 conferences. He currently chairs MidemNet, an international music/technology conference convened in Cannes each year. Cohen also held senior management positions at both Warner Bros. Records and Philips Media. Additionally, Cohen lead two highly successful new media consulting operations, DMN Consulting and Consulting Adults, attracting clients such as Amazon.com, Microsoft, Universal Studios New Media, DreamWorks Records, Liquid Audio, Wherehouse Records/Checkout.com and several other entertainment, computer and new media organizations. A 25-year industry veteran, Cohen serves on the NARAS (Grammy) Los Angeles chapter Board of Governors, the Board of Directors for the Neil Bogart Memorial Fund, Co-chairs the new media arm of the T.J. Martell Foundation, and lends his time and talents to the Grammy In The Schools Program.
